Night cramps seem to hit teenagers (especially younger ones) and children in the evening more than at any other time. The cramps may only last a few moments, but, as used to be the case with my 14-year-old daughter, many persist for many painful hours – defying treatment with hot-water bottles, massage, movement and painkillers alike. The problem is often related to a shortage of calcium, magnesium, potassium or B vitamins. A teaspoon of marmite a day- on toast or off a spoon – can healp prevents cramps (if the problem is lack of B vitamins). Having it on toast for breakfast every morning is a good and easy way to remember to take it regularly.
